2008 Red-Tailed Hawk News

September 1- 6: We weren't able to search for our hawk family on these days and we haven't seen them in the general
area near and around our home either.
September 7: We searched for a long time this afternoon for our hawk family. We didn't see any of them, however, there
were many fresh signs that some of them were around earlier in the day.
September 8: Mama was sitting patiently in her favorite tree near this years nest. We did not see Papa or the fledglings
September 9: We didn't search for our hawk family today.
September 10: We found Mama high up in her favorite tree near this years nest. She appeared to be resting there for a
while, she eventually flew off to a nearby Cedar tree where she landed on the very top of the tree where she stayed for a
brief moment. Mama then flew off to the North East in the direction of last years nest site.
September 11: Today we spotted Fledgling three soaring on this breezy day. The fledgling is doing very well and seemed
to be enjoying itself. We didn't see the rest of our hawk family today.
September 12-13: We were not able to search for our hawk family on these days.
September 14-23: We were not able to search for our hawk family on these days. However, we noticed on many
occasions that a Peregrine Falcon is spending time in Mama and Papa's territory sitting on some of their favorite vantage
points. This may be why Mama and Papa haven't been spotted on their favorite tall buildings and vantage points of late.
They may be spending more time in the tree tops where it is more difficult to spot them on a regular basis and out of sight
from the Peregrine Falcon.
September 24: We finally spot Mama soaring very high over the central section of her territory. Mama circled for about ten
minutes overhead before disappearing in the direction of this years nest.
September 25: We didn't search for our hawk family today.
September 26: Mama, Papa and the third fledgling were all soaring in the general area of this years nest. The fledgling
was not flying near Mama and Papa as it kept its distance. The three of them stayed in the area for over an hour.
September 27-28: There were many fresh signs that our hawk family was around, however we didn't see any of them on
these days. Once again the Peregrine Falcon was in the area.
September 29: The third fledgling was soaring over the central section of Mama and Papa's territory early this afternoon.
The fledgling eventually drifted South back to the general area of this years nest.
September 30- October 2: We were not able to search for our hawk family on these days.
