JKNATUREGALLERY SITE:
March 2010: March 1st Mama is still in the nest overnight and on March 2nd Papa has made nest exchanges with Mama
during the day. We have had some very rough weather on the 14th with very high winds at times but so far all appears well
at the nest. During the three day period of March 12-15th we had nearly 3 inches of rain with lows in the 40's and highs
near 50 degrees. On Sunday the 14th Papa approached from the West and entered the nest from a high speed stoop at
1:30pm. Mama quickly left to the Southwest and disappeared behind some buildings, less than 30 seconds after Papa
exchanged places with Mama a heavy rain started from West to East. It appeared he was attempting to stay ahead of the
approaching rainfall and complete the nest exchange prior to the rain starting. March 25th, Mama and Papa are now
entering their 25th day sitting on the nest. I will be making more updates to the website over the next few days so please
check back frequently.
March 26: Mama continues to sit on her nest. We didn't see Papa today. JFK NY Weather station data - Hi 55, Lo 34,
Partly cloudy, Avg wind 20.1mph, Max gust 37mph.
March 27: Mama continues to sit on her nest once again we didn't see Papa today. JFK NY Weather station data - Hi 40,
Lo 29, Sunny, Avg wind 10.2mph, Max gust 21mph.
March 28: A short visit today, Mama continues to sit on her nest and during our visit we didn't see Papa. JFK NY Weather
station data - Hi 48, Lo 35, Mostly cloudy to Light rain late and heavy/steady rain overnight, Avg wind 16.6mph, Max gust
40mph. In the Northeast region 3 to 6 inches of rain is expected through to early morning Tuesday.
March 29: We weren't able to observe our hawk family today. JFK NY Weather station data - Hi 52, Lo 46, Fog/Rain heavy
at times/Mist, Avg wind 13.3mph, Max gust 37mph. 2.08 inches of rain.
March 30: We weren't able to observe our hawk family today. JFK NY Weather station data - Hi 52, Lo 43, Fog/Rain heavy
at times/Mist, Avg wind 20.4mph, Max gust 40mph.
March 31: We weren't able to observe our hawk family today. JFK NY Weather station data - Hi 59, Lo 44, Mostly cloudy,
Avg wind 16.7mph, Max gust 35mph. Month to date 8.62 inches of rain.
