Aug 2. I had spotted a member of our hawk family and thought it was Ivy chasing Pigeons in an open field, as I
approached the area I lost site of her behind some trees. By the time I got into the area I had last seen her, Ivy
had disappeared. None of the wildlife helped me locate Ivy as all the birds and Squirrels were quite. I had
noticed a pair of Mockingbirds making some mild objections a 100 yards off the to North in a Cedar tree. As I
got closer Mama flew off from the top of the tall Cedar tree. The Mockingbirds chased her around for 15
minutes. Eventually, Mama soared high and the Mockingbirds left her alone. Pigeons were flying in circles off to
the South a few hundred yards away, I think this is where Ivy was but I could not find her. I have posted new
images in the Raptors photo gallery page 15. There are also images from the 29th annual 2007 Thunderbird
Native American Indian Powwow held at the Queens County Farm Museum this past weekend. The images can

Aug 4. We found Mama for a very brief moment today as she flew off far to the East. Eventually, she landed on
a very tall apartment complex and stayed there for a long time. I have added photos to the Raptor Photo

Aug 5. We were only able to search for our hawk family for one hour this afternoon. We didn't see any of the
hawks, however, we did see signs once again that they were in the area earlier in the day. Further off to the
East I did notice many Pigeons flying in a panic, so I assume at least one of the hawks may have been nearby. I
didn't have the time required to search that area before I had to leave for the day. Chief and Ivy have become
very strong in flight and have significantly expanded the use if their parents territory the past few weeks. The
two don't spend as much time together anymore and have become much more difficult to track. The heat and
humidity has also diminished the activity of the wildlife during the day that would usually assist in tracking the
hawks. We will keep looking each day and provide as much information and photographs as the hawks and
weather permit. Please check back regularly for updates.
Aug 6. We were not able to search for our hawk family today.
Aug 7. We didn't see any members of our hawk family today. We did see many signs that they were in the area
at some point throughout the day prior to our search.
Aug 8. A very hot and humid day, we did not see any of our hawk family. They were probably doing their best to
stay cool in the shade and not move much.
Aug 9. We were not able to search for our hawk family today.
Aug 10. It was very rainy all day today preventing us from searching for our hawk family.
Aug 11. We were not able to search for our hawk family today. Hopefully we can find them Sunday to provide
updates and new images.
Aug 12. We found Mama and Papa this afternoon. They were both in the same general area and used the
same tree within 30 minutes of each other. Mama was very interested watching squirrels pass through on the
ground from her spot high on an Oak tree branch. It appeared that she had eaten already so the squirrels were
safe. Mama flew off to the South after 30 minutes of observing her. Papa appeared shortly after from the West.
He was being followed briefly by an Oriole. Shortly after the Oriole left Papa landed in the same tree that Mama
had used earlier. Papa jumped onto a number of different branches and seemed relaxed as he preened
himself and lost a feather in the process. Eventually Papa also flew off to the South. We did not see Ivy or Chief
today. We did see the remnants of a meal (pigeon) one of the hawks had consumed earlier in the day. I have
added new images of Mama and Papa in the Raptors Gallery on page 16.
Aug 13. We were not able to search for our hawk family today. However, we did see Ivy this morning and Mama
this afternoon on two separate outings. I have added new images of Mama and Papa from Sunday in the
Raptors Gallery on page 16.

Aug 16. We did not see our hawk family today. However, this weekends predicted nice weather will hopefully
provide opportunities to obtain new images and observations of our hawk family.
Queens College has recently informed me that my photo exhibit has been extended. "The Urban Red-Tailed

Aug 18. Late this morning two Peregrine Falcons flew over our house vocalizing and chasing each other. They
were flying at a high rate of speed dodging and weaving as they eventually disappeared behind some trees to
the SW. Early this afternoon on a short walk I spotted one of our hawk family youngsters, it appeared to be
Chief. He quickly disappeared over the tree tops and I lost track of him. Later in the afternoon on a longer walk
I found Papa. He was sitting in an Oak tree very alert and observing all the wildlife around him. He vocalized
numerous times, I wondered what he knew that I didn't. Papa eventually left and flew to the NE disappearing
behind a canopy of trees. I continued to search, walking to the West a half mile I found what appeared to be
Mama at a great distance on top of a very tall apartment building. I observed her for nearly an hour, she did not
move from her spot. The light faded and I went home for the day. I have added new images from today in the
Raptors photo gallery on page 16.

including the remnants of a hawk meal in the general area of the nest location.
Aug 21. The steady rain prevented us from searching for our hawk family today.
Aug 22. We were not able to search at length for our hawk family today. On a very brief walk I didn't see any of
the hawks. In the late morning a Osprey circled over our home for about ten minutes before heading to the
West. Please enjoy some new images from this past weekend of Papa on page 16 in the Raptors gallery.
Aug 23. When the sky cleared late this afternoon I went to search for our hawk family. I did not see the hawks I
did find a number of signs that they were around at some point during the day. So no new images from today,
please enjoy the images I posted yesterday from this past weekend of Papa on page 16 in the Raptors gallery.

Aug 24. I was not able to find any of our hawk family today until the early evening. I did find many signs that
they were around in the areas that I searched. In the early evening Mama was settled in for the evening on a
local apartment building fire escape for the night. Its been a while since we have seen Ivy or Chief, hopefully
this weekend we will find them. Please enjoy the images I posted Aug 22nd from this past weekend of Papa on

Aug 25. We only had time for a very brief search for our hawk family very late this afternoon. One of the hawks
flew low over the trees in the central section of their territory in a SW direction. We could not identify which
member of the family we had seen and we had no luck catching up to and finding our hawk family member.
Aug 26. Early this evening on top of a tall office building we spotted Mama. I waited for almost an hour for her
to take flight. Unfortunately, it became overcast and to dark for photography. As I left the area Mama was still
sitting in the same spot. She was active for a while preening herself and stretching her wings. I didn't see any of
the other members of our hawk family today.
Aug 27. We were not able to search for our hawk family today. Hopefully we will find them tomorrow.
Aug 28. We found only Mama this evening, she was settled in for the night on one of her favorite sleeping
spots. It was to dark to take photographs.
Aug 29. Today I had seen one our hawks flying just above the tree line. I attempted to keep track where our
hawk member was going in the hope it would settle into a tree. Its low flight made it very difficult as the many
mature trees in the area interfered my being able to track its movements and direction. I had seen many signs
our hawk family was around today, including a fresh kill. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get any new images of
our hawk family this afternoon.
Aug 30. It was only until early this evening that we were able to spot Mama. We were not able to see any of the
other members of our hawk family today. Our young hawks are in their fifth month and doing very well. The last
couple weeks the family has spread out and does not spend much time together. Recent observations are
becoming limited to seeing just one or maybe two members of the hawk family at a time.
Aug 31. We were not able to search for our hawk family today.
